Mechanical Design, Drafting and Fabrication

Wyle's Mechanical team creates robust designs for biomedical equipment that meets NASA standards. A full team of Design Engineers and drafters support the mechanical design team.

The design team is involved from proof-of-concept to actual hardware. Wyle's engineers have expertise in designing specifically for microgravity applications. Various environmental challenges to overcome include loads induced onto the space vehicle structure and vibration effects on other space vehicle equipment. The team is skilled in NASA specifications and standards. Furthermore, analysis performed by engineers include the following:

  • Materials selection and proper materials treatment
  • Stress Analysis
  • Fracture Control Summaries
  • Finite Element Analysis
  • Fastener Integrity
  • Proof-of-Concept Fixture design
  • Life Cycle test equipment design and evaluation

The team creates designs using the following computer software tools:

  • Pro/Engineer
  • Auto Desk Mechanical Desktop
  • Solid Works
  • Step Translator
  • MSC Working Model
  • MSC Finite Element Analysis
  • COSMOS-M
  • ANSYS
  • COSMIC/NASTRAN or MSC/NASTRAN
