Barajas International Airport Madrid, Spain

Project Description and Scope: Aircraft Noise Study for Barajas International Airport

Wyle conducted an aircraft noise study for Madrid – Barajas International Airport in November of 1999 as part of an airport master plan update. The goal of the study was to minimize aircraft noise impact on neighboring communities, taking into account existing and future technologies, approach and departure procedures, Air Traffic Control systems, and airspace capacity. Three different areas of improvement were examined in this study:

  • Flight Track Analysis
  • Nighttime Traffic Analysis
  • Aircraft Mix and Runway Utilization

The study defined several alternatives and recommendations, which if implemented will significantly mitigate the noise exposure levels on the noise sensitive development around the airport along existing and future flight paths. This study was conducted in conjunction with an airspace analysis that investigated the feasibility of reduced aircraft separation and sequencing minimums.

Sub Consultant to Mitre Corporation to perform noise analysis for master plan update.
