Wyle provides planning and analysis expertise in virtually every area related to aviation noise and emissions. We are also experts in the environmental modeling and assessment of aviation systems and NextGen requirements.
Wyle has conducted more than 200 studies in support of NEPA, FAR Part 150 compatibility plans and Land-use programs. We also led the industry with the development of various environmental models and supplemental noise metrics to better correlate noise measures to community effects.
- We are experts in all the major models used by the FAA and other modal agencies — e.g., INM, TNM, EDMS, AEDT, AERMOD, CALPUFF, MOVES, etc.
- We are key members of the FAA’s team developing the Aviation Environmental Design Tool (AEDT)
- We have also pioneered many of the methods / algorithms used by FAA, DOD and NPS to more accurately model noise exposure from transportation sources.
Environmental Tradeoffs & Interdependencies
Wyle possesses advanced expertise in the assessment of tradeoffs and interdependencies between noise, emissions, fuel burn and capacity. We are currently:
- Developing guidance for TRB/ACRP on how to optimize aircraft departure operations taking into account trade-offs between environmental, fuel burn, and capacity constraints.
- Studying the environmental constraints and relationship to operational factors of NextGen vehicles and concepts under a NASA effort.
Operational Analyses & Environmental Policy Support:
Wyle has extensive experience conducting TRACON radar data reduction and analysis. We have developed advanced tools for the purpose of conducting statistical analyses of airport radar data—tools (e.g, NDADS) that are approved for use in FAA-funded environmental studies.
We have also developed key tools and databases for the FAA, which provide extensive analysis of fleet, route, and operational alternatives. We continue to use these tools to conduct statistical analyses in support of both NextGen modeling efforts as well as international policy efforts under ICAO/CAEP.
We continue to play key roles in various national and international forums and organizations, including:
- The FAA Center of Excellence for Aircraft Noise and Aviation Emissions Mitigation (PARTNER),
- The Joint Planning and Development Office (JPDO) NextGen Institute,
- The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE),
- Several TRB technical committees.
