Services

Wyle provides the same expertise for its commercial human spaceflight customers that it applies to the care, training, and support of astronauts worldwide. With an approach emphasizing prevention, Wyle has successfully supported human space flight activities for the United States, Russia, Europe and Japan and for multiple flight platforms (Shuttle, Soyuz, ISS and MIR). Services are available as packages or customized options to best meet individual customer needs.

Medical Screening

Wyle flight surgeons, board certified in aerospace medicine, are experienced in conducting astronaut medical evaluations, as well as pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight health maintenance programs. Commercial medical services include:

  • Medical screening for crew and passengers (physiological and psychological, including responses in analog environments such as a centrifuge and altitude chamber)
  • Post-flight support (medical checkup, counseling, rehabilitation)
  • Major remedial medical evaluation and treatment

Training

Wyle training experts define, develop and implement training programs for astronauts, crew medical officers, flight surgeons, biomedical engineer flight controllers and other flight control disciplines. This training addresses a broad range of material related to human health and performance, health care management, medical system operations and specialty activities such as EVA operations and in-flight emergencies. Commercial training programs for crew and passengers include:

  • Flight readiness training (centrifuge testing/training, hypoxia training, emergency egress training)
  • Optional training including additional centrifuge runs, zero gravity flights, underwater training, emergency medical kit training, science program training, EVA training and preparation, and customer specific programs
  • Physical readiness training including individualized physical training programs that begin with an assessment of current fitness level

Data Management

In order to comply with regulatory requirements, there will be a need to collect and analyze medical data. Spaceflight operators will benefit from data management services to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of medical data, and to provide the discipline expertise to analyze and interpret the data. Wyle successfully provides these services for NASA and offers the same services for commercial space operators.

Risk Management

Integrated across the mission lifecycle, risk reduction for human spaceflight is best attained through proactive risk management. The Wyle approach starts with a thorough analysis of the concept of operations relative to the risk tolerance of your venture, resulting in a comprehensive plan and an option for contracting implementation capabilities.

Flight and Ground Operations

Wyle personnel are experienced in developing and preparing flight rules, conducting simulations, monitoring crew health care in-flight, preparing console references, providing staffing for specific medical needs and preparing emergency plans for launch and landing contingencies. Services are available to meet nominal and contingency planning and support for pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight commercial human spaceflight operations.
