Wyle Information Systems implemented and continues to improve a robust Virtual Private Network (VPN) and Citrix XenApp infrastructure to allow excellent performance and tight security for those Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) employees using low bandwidth remote connections. Much of TTB’s workforce spends a significant amount of time working from home, at audit location or investigation sites, or from small field offices. It is critical that these employees have infrastructure and support available to them to allow them to work efficiently, effectively, and securely. Wyle’s team works to meet the needs of the remote workers ensuring they receive the same high level of service available to other TTB employees. In place, there is a primary and alternate robust VPN capability that allows users to access all network resources and tools that they would regularly have access to when they are in the office. There is 100 percent of capability for all users via VPN.
Wyle staff converted the Job Corps Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) WAN to a Dynamic Virtual Private Network (VPN), providing more bandwidth for JCCs, improving WAN performance, and reducing annual wide-area circuit costs by approximately $3 million.
Wyle Information Systems also completed a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) task providing a wireless local area network (WLAN) to support the Air Traffic Control operations of the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Air Traffic Control Tower, located in Atlanta, Ga. This effort is significant because it is the first instance of a WLAN operation within the FAA and it was installed in the FAA’s newest air traffic control tower located at the second busiest airport in the world. With this system the FAA gains three distinct capabilities: 1) wireless workstation connectivity, 2) wireless handset connectivity within the coverage area, and 3) voice-over IP wireline access. The wireless system uses the same spread spectrum, frequency jumping technology as other FAA owned wireless systems, but provides enhanced secure roaming, intrusion detection and VPN technology.
