Wyle Information Systems designed, developed, and deployed the custom Sybase and Web-based Job Corps Electronic Property Management System (EPMS), using EPMS to track property at the Department of Labor Job Corps Data Center (JCDC). The Wyle JCDC team provided a Capital Property Depreciation Report to the Job Corps National Office and Office of Inspector General (OIG) on quarterly basis. Property received was reconciled with the proper purchase order and tagged. Wyle staff also maintained custom software for the JCDC and tracked and maintained commercial software licenses.
Wyle leverages market knowledge to translate the U.S. Air Force Materiel Command’s (AFMC’s) requirements into the best catalog of reliable and economical hardware and software for Network Operations Security Center (NOSC) purchases. Through industry partnerships, and in close collaboration with AFMC, Wyle dramatically simplified the deployment of desktop computers. When new computers are purchased, the appropriate software image is transmitted to vendors, who then configure all of the computers and place a specific bar-code tag on each system along with the appropriate Inventory Property Management System (IPMS) entry in digital format. Consequently, Wyle staff are able to deploy out-of-the-box computers quickly, ensuring complete compliance with all Automated Data Processing Equipment (ADPE) regulations.
Through proactive management of spares, a supply of workstations was built that AFMC uses to replace computers that fail until the warranty provisions are implemented. There has been a decreased Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for the NOSC through a systematic approach to technical refreshment to create a powerful solution that upgrades individual components, servers, and user stations while maintaining compatibility across the enterprise. A 100 per cent complete NOSC inventory is performed on a semi-annual basis in conjunction with our analysis of performance monitoring data collected over the last several months. This facilitates planning for technical refreshment.
Program managers have developed change control procedures that ensure configuration changes are made in both the inventory listing and in the ADPE database. As software and hardware are received, technicians enter the serialized data into the appropriate database and make notification to implementing engineers on availability. After software or hardware installation has occurred, engineers notify the change control specialists, and these specialists once again update databases to reflect current configuration of NOSC equipment, with results being available for review through our Web-based eTOMS system.
Wyle maintains reliable software accountability for all software purchased for use in the NOSC IAW AFI 33-114 and inventories software upon receipt, securing it in the software library for authorized, official use only. Incorporating software inventory control and distribution procedures into the Configuration Control Board’s procedures while providing Network Control Centers (NCCs)/Group Support Units (GSUs) with reliable software management policies and procedures.
