Wyle Information Systems supported the operation of the U.S. Department of Labor’s (DOL) full-service Job Corps Data Center (JCDC) facility, which served approximately 50,000 students at 118 Job Corps Center’s and four satellite locations nationwide. The services provided included Voice-over-IP (VoIP), video teleconferencing (VTC), and data telecommunications (TC) support; help desk operations through the Wyle staffed Technical Assistance Center (TAC); and computer/network center operations. Wyle designed, engineered, implemented, operated and maintained an enterprise-wide AVVID VoIP service to approximately 20,000 JCDC users at more than 120 Job Corp Center sites nationwide, fully replacing long-distance carrier utilization. Collaboration with Cisco engineers ensured networks were designed and implemented to carry the additional voice traffic to meet performance requirements. The reduced cost of long-distance voice services resulted in an annual savings of approximately $1 million per year to Job Corps.
At the Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), Wyle Information Systems supported the focus of implementing initiatives that would result in infrastructure cost savings for the bureau, switching the entire bureau to a VoIP phone system. It performs beyond expectations, saving several hundreds of thousands of dollars each year and giving dramatically improved capabilities to the TTB user community. Integration of live video communication capabilities, online meetings, communicator and online presence notification has all allowed the TTB to realize efficiencies and cost savings across the entire organization.
